Press Releases

“I am so honoured to receive the Joseph K. Seidner award, in recognition of my commitment to the plumbing industry,  It was extremely unexpected surprise for me and truly humbling to get this award as Joe was a friend and a mentor to me.” -
Joe Rogers

Joe Rogers, Building Code Coordinator of the NS Office of the Fire Marshal, Department of Municipal Affairs & Housing is the 2023 recipient of the Joseph K. Seidner Award.

The presentation took place virtually at the annual Canadian Advisory Council on Plumbing Meeting in Calgary, Alberta on August 15, 2023. The in-person presentation is being planned for the fall of 2023.

The Canadian Advisory Council on Plumbing provides a forum for industry, regulators, and product certification organizations to share new concepts and ideas, to discuss policy and programs, and to review innovations and new technologies that affect plumbing standards, as well as the certification and testing of plumbing products.

The award is in recognition of Mr. Rogers’s outstanding commitment of the plumbing industry who dedicated his time, talents, knowledge, experience and expertise in developing safer plumbing codes and standards.

Joe had the opportunity to work with Joesph K. Seidner earlier in his career. He was instrumental in working with CIPH to have CSA and CIPH develop the online training program for inspectors.

He was a key panelist for several industry sessions to help provide clarity on low leaded plumbing products and their intents. He has also done numerous webinars for CIPH and the industry on how codes and standards work, their processes and changes to the latest editions of the national model codes.

Recently he was key in the development of the new code system, and he is now a co-chair of the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC).

Joe has a wholistic view of the Canadian system and is an ardent contributor and advocate for standards, codes, regulation and harmonization.

He is a collaborator, an excellent asset and resource who is respected by his regulatory peers and industry across Canada and the USA.  His invaluable knowledge and significant contributions do not go unrecognized as we work together to support each other to reach the goals of health, safety, and accessibility for all Canadians. Ultimately to achieve other important objectives such as conservation, energy efficiency and sustainability through harmonization.

The award was established by the CIPH Board of Directors in November 2000 to honour Joseph K. Seidner, the first recipient and an industry leader and friend of CIPH. Mr. Seidner passed away in 2003 at the age of 96.  The award honours his legacy in the Standards community.
